From Co-op to Career: Cole Charlebois Signs Apprenticeship with Neelands Group
The transition from high school student to skilled tradesperson just got a lot smoother for Cole Charlebois. In a milestone moment for both the student and the local workforce, Cole officially signed his Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) papers this week, securing his future as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic.
The Path to Success
Cole, a dedicated student at Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School, has been spending his semester gaining hands-on experience through a four-credit co-op placement. His journey has taken him to the Collingwood site of the Neelands Group, a leader in sustainable refrigeration and HVAC solutions.
By bridging the gap between the classroom and the job site, Cole has been able to: Apply theoretical knowledge to complex, real-world cooling systems; earn secondary school credits while accumulating hours toward his apprenticeship; and work alongside seasoned mentors who are experts in the trade.
Why OYAP Matters
The OYAP program is designed to give students like Cole a head start. By signing as an apprentice before graduation, he isn't just "trying out" a job—he is officially entering a high-demand profession with a clear path toward his Certificate of Qualification.
A Bright Future in the Trades
For the Our Lady of the Bay community, Cole’s signing is a proud reminder of the diverse pathways available to students. As the demand for skilled mechanics in the HVAC/R industry continues to grow, Cole is now positioned at the forefront of a stable and rewarding career.
Congratulations, Cole, on taking this massive step toward your future!
