Apprenticeship Alert at St. Theresa's CSS

OYAP Success Story: St. Theresa’s Student Begins Career as Child Development Practitioner
Posted on 01/26/2026

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board OYAP team is thrilled to celebrate the recent signing of Baylee Holsgrove, a dedicated student from St. Theresa’s Catholic Secondary School. Baylee has officially signed on as an Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) apprentice to pursue her certification as a Child Development Practitioner.

A Passion Rooted in Experience

Baylee’s journey into the skilled trades didn't happen overnight; it is the result of long-term dedication and a clear passion for helping young people grow.

Baylee has been a committed Co-op student at the Biinoojinsauk Child Care Centre in Midland since Grade 11. Through this placement, she was able to gain hands-on experience, build relationships with the staff and children, and prove her reliability as a future employee.

For Baylee, this career path feels like a natural fit. With family members who have also worked with young children, she grew up understanding the importance of early childhood education. This background gave her the insight to know that this was not just a job, but a career she wanted to pursue with her whole heart.

From Co-op Student to Apprentice

One of the greatest advantages of the OYAP program is the ability to turn a high school credit into a career.

Now that Baylee is finishing Grade 12, she is seamlessly transitioning from a student role into an apprenticeship. She will continue to work and learn at the Biinoojinsauk Child Care Centre, gaining the hours and competencies required to become a fully certified practitioner.

Thunder Pride

This achievement highlights the hard work Baylee has put into her education and her Co-op placement. Ms. Gushue and the entire staff at St. Theresa’s Catholic Secondary School are incredibly proud of Baylee's dedication and are excited to watch her flourish in this next chapter of her life.

Congratulations, Baylee, on securing this fantastic opportunity!
